The new intelligent anemometer Thies First Class Advanced X is available now. Benefit from excellent IEC classification results as well as inclination and vibration measurement.

The brand new intelligent Thies First Class Advanced X anemometers are available at Ammonit now! The Thies First Class Advanced X and the enhanced new version Thies First Class Advanced II anemometer are the first anemometers on the market, which have been classified according to IEC 61400-12-1 Edition 2.0 (2017-03).

Have a look at the great classification results of the Thies First Class Advanced X! The intelligent Thies First Class X even beats the new Thies First Class Advanced II with a better classification. When comparing the results the intelligent anemometer is ranked about 1.1 point better in the IEC classes. For the data sheets of both anemometers click here.

The results become even more obvious by calculating the Operational Standard Uncertainty from the classification values acc. to IEC 61400-12-1. The Operational Standard Uncertainty indicates the maximum deviation of the wind speed measured by the anemometer compared to the true wind speed in m/s. The Thies First Class Advanced X anemometer shows outstanding values for the Operational Standard Uncertainty.

The innovative Thies First Class Advanced X can be considered as a clever anemometer since it offers many more features than a common cup anemometer. It is designed to measure, e.g.,:

  • Horizontal wind speed
  • Absolute and relative air pressure
  • Inclination
  • Acceleration
  • Vibration

The anemometer is designed with frequency and RS485 Modbus output for more convenient implementation in your measurement system. It is bus compatible. Thus you can connect up to eight Thies First Class Advanced X anemometers to your Meteo-40 data logger - or sensors using the same protocol.

The sensitivity analysis performed during the IEC classification process revealed that air density very slightly influences the revolutions per minute of the cup star of the anemometer. Hence, the Thies First Class Advanced X anemometer is equipped with corrective algorithms to compensate those minimal influences.

However, the anemometer is not a black box - the output of the Thies First Class Advanced X anemometer covers original measurement values and the corrected values. So it's up to you to decide, who calculates: you or your anemometer :-)

After reading about all the new features and included cleverness, we can also confirm that the Thies First Class Advanced X anemometer still offers the measurement accuracy, which you are used to. The accuracy for wind speed measurement is about ± 1% of the measured value or < ± 0.2 m/s at 3 ... 50 m/s.

The accuracy values for inclination and vibration measurement are convincing, as well:

  • Inclination: ± 1° (range: -89.9° ... 89.9°)
  • Vibration: ± 0.4 Hz (range: 0 ... 50 Hz)

You can use the inclination and vibration measurement values to analyse any influences on the met mast construction, e.g., slacking of the guy ropes or movements of the booms.

Much more than wind speed measurement; it's also a kind of met mast analytics.
